Croom is associated with poets and poetry, and the Irish poet Seán
Ó Tuama lived in, and is buried in Croom. In the mid-eighteenth
century Croom was a meeting place for Gaelic poets. Croom is also credited
with being the place of origination of the form of poetry known as a 'Limerick'.
