Bishop Denis Hallinan Bishop Hallinan was a native of the parish from the townland of Graigue. He trained for the priesthood at the Irish College in Rome and was ordained in 1874. His first appointment was as a curate in Newcastlewest until 1886 when he was transferred to St. Michael's in the city. On the death of Daniel Fitzgerald of St. Mary's in 1896, he went there.
