The church in Ballybrown is dedicated to St Joseph. It was
built in the period 1829 - 1840 but the exact date is unknown. Ballybrown
church was originally a thatched building. A headstone to Fr Downes was
found in Ballybrown church grounds in 1986. Fr Downes died on December
14th 1840 after being thrown from his horse. We would like to thank Mike
McNamara, who informed us that the headstone was actually a window ledge
with a memorial to Downes which is now located in the grounds of Ballybrown
church. Downes was in fact buried within Ballybrown church on the right
hand side.

On the left hand side is the remains of Fr O’Connor
PP who died 1896. Unfortunately the slabs were covered over in the 1960s
with carpet and lots of glue. Efforts are being made to have them cleaned
up.

Behind the high altar of the church there is a stained glass
window, which was donated by Mrs Norah Mulqueen, a native of Corcamore
who died on 2 March 1910. Initially we said that this stained glass window
depicted the raising of Lazarus. However, we have since been informed
that it in fact depicts the death of St Joseph. To the left of the high
altar, there is a statue of St Joseph, while to the right, there is a
statue of the Queen of Heaven. In the left aisle of the church, there
is a statue of the Sacred Heart and the baptismal font is also in this
aisle. In the right aisle of the church, there is a shrine to the Blessed
Virgin Mary.
